days of dysfunction
This story is about serious conflicts within my school district's Board of Education. I had to learn to process the information that was being given to me since I couldn't run with everything that I was told. The process took months to complete, as I was gaining new information that altered my angle every day. This story taught me to be purposeful and strategic when synthesizing information to report. It also taught me diligence and persistence when covering a complicated issue. I wouldn't have been able to pull this feature off without the help from staff and community members.

Making the list
This was the first article of mine that was recognized at a state conference as a Superior news story. As a news staffer, I paid close attention to the things happening in our community and school system, not just my local high school. In this article I recognized two elementary schools in our district and their accomplishments.

This feature is about the disproportionate representation of minority students in AP classes at our school. In addition to interviewing minority AP students, I researched the topic extensively in a national scope, using human sources to tie it back to our community. I wish I had packaged the story to go on the website as well, but it was published in the magazine.

I developed this story as a freshman and reported a change in our district. Every school in the county recently obtained their own individual school nurse. I interviewed expert sources such as the director of nurses to determine what the negative effects of this were and just how big of a development this was for our school district in particular.
their second lives
For this project, I featured teachers from my school who also worked second jobs. This required a lot of organization on the forefront so I asked everyone the same questions so the information could be presented comprehensively.
